Today I want to talk about writing Kids Books for Kindle.Shawn Hansen, who does a lot of my graphics for me, is also an excellent writer. She has just released a great product that will teach you how to create children’s books for the Kindle market place.
Shawn was kind enough to provide me with a review copy of her main product. So I thought I would provide you with a quick overview of it. I have a couple of books on Kindle and the iBookstore, but haven’t really done too much with this myself, though I would love to write a book for our granddaughter.
The main guide is a 41 page PDF file. Shawn immediately starts off educating you on why the kids market is a good place to sell your writing. She talks about why now, what types of books are flying off the shelves, and where to find ideas for your books. The next section is absolutely crucial to your kids books and helps you overcome a huge problem. That is how to get the illustrations done for your book, without spending a fortune on hiring an illustrator. This section is absolutely worth the cost of this course alone, and you could apply these tactics to other graphics. If you are anything like me then graphics is something you feel challenged with. Shawn shows you how to get illustrations done and a work around for those of us without Photoshop.
Kindle has just introduced the Kids Book Creator Software, if you have seen this it may have thrown you for a loop. This tool is awesome for creating books that are based on graphics. Again she goes into plenty of detail about how this software works.
Another area that Shawn addresses is the cost of customers downloading your book. As you know Kindle charges a fee dependant upon the size of your book, images always increase the size of any download. You will learn what type of cost you can expect to be charged and why this isn’t a huge problem at all.
Your next area of concern is where to get images with the correct licence so you don’t run in to any copyright issues down the round. Shawn is well versed in licenses and provides you with her top 3 choices. Definitely stick with those if you don’t want to run into issues!
The book then delves into the actual creation process and Shawn has added links to video tutorials to help you through them. She shows you how to create the pages, how to use the Kindle software , previewing and then publishing your book. After the video section Shawn talks about the power of creating a kids book series.
This main course is aimed at helping you get started on the road with publishing your first Kid’s Kindle book. She also offers several upgrade options, which you will see on the sales page. There are four different packages altogether; bronze, silver, gold and ultimate. Each one builds upon the previous one. You can choose which level you would like depending on how much support you would like in creating your Kid’s Kindle book. For example the silver course gives you 5 ready to go plots and a course on using Pic Monkey for your images. Gold adds another step which is a complete writing course and the ultimate package adds how to build your web site, how to drive traffic to your books, how to monetize your site, how to grow your list and how to add extra products to your portfolio. Lots of choices for sure. Select whichever option suits you the best.
