Well, after having a day of reflection and thoughts, I thought it was appropriate to post about setting goals for the upcoming year. One of the tools I will be using this year is my new journal and planner. While I have always used a monthly calendar, I have never used a journal before. After doing research for a product I just released I saw the benefits that journaling has for both your business and personal life. So I took the leap and ordered one after reading through lots of journal reviews. I purchased the first one on the list, the Minerva Planner. I bought the digital version and then took it to my local office supply store and had it printed and had a nice coil binder added to it. It’s a plump 200+ pages.
One of my first goals this year, was to not set too many goals! I don’t want to overwhelm myself with having so much to do. This year I want to have a few larger goals that I can work towards in smaller increments. This way, no matter what I am working on, I am still moving forward in the right direction.
Here’s my basic goal plan as of January – these are in no particular order:
- Increase my income each month of the year
- Publish one book on Amazon each month
- Continue writing and adding content regularly to my PLR Store
- Work on my health by staying active and losing some pounds
My Planning Tips
One of my first steps was to go through all of my current projects and delete, or sell those that were not profitable. Or the ones that I had no interest in any more. I did this in various ways, from simply deleting old content and domains to flipping two sites and making a nice profit from them. I also looked at all my monthly subscriptions and got rid of those that weren’t necessary. This was done by deciding which ones I never or rarely used, and by seeing if this particular tool was available elsewhere. This step alone saved me a nice sum of money and helped me realize what I was focusing on, and what products were producing for me.
I also looked at the things that I like to do. This, of course, includes writing. It’s how I first made my online income, and how I still do. Though I do have help with writing content these days. This is how I decided I wanted to get back into publishing books again. I had published one cookbook, which I now want to revise and add a fresh new cover too and re-release it. So look for that to come out shortly.
I definitely knew that I had too many projects on the go, and this does disrupt your focus and your productivity to some extent. Now that I have slimmed things down, I feel much better than I can stay on track and reach my goals.
I am absolutely totally guilty of not paying enough attention to my health this past year. I gained pounds and felt my joints getting stiff. I would go through phases of being super active and watching what I was eating. To suddenly just letting things go! The end of the year was nasty. In November I came down with a kidney infection, which was no fun at all and really drained me of my energy. Then in December I went for my flu shot and had a bad reaction to it. My arm was swollen, red and extremely sore for 10 days. Before it started to behave and go away. It left a big brown patch on my arm which is just disappearing. After that episode I caught a bad chest cold. With my asthma this turned into a nasty chest infection and put me in the ER. Hubby caught this as well and we are just getting over it now. So it’s definitely time to make my health one of my goals.
My main income comes from my PLR store and the list I have built around it. This is done by affiliate marketing, and is an area I will constantly work on to improve. I will achieve this by adding new products to my store regularly. As an example my latest product was related to journals: Journal PLR and it’s selling extremely well! I need to work on my list building efforts as well and will do this by offering more lead magnets to reach new subscribers. I have also just launched my new Health Fit Club that is perfect for anyone in the health niche that needs content regularly.
To stay focused I will use my new journal each day. I have written down my main goals. Next I want to plan out my 12 books that I want to publish and get them outlined. I will do the same with content for my PLR Store. I try to plan in advance, but I often get some great customer requests, and then I will suddenly come out with a new product that wasn’t on my list. But that’s perfectly okay with me, and it’s the fun part of the business.
In an attempt to work fewer hours I will work on my time management skills and only work on one project a day. If necessary I will hire some help for all those small tasks that eat into your time each day. Then before you know it, your day is half over and you haven’t started on your main project yet! I would love to hear about your plans and how you manage setting goals for your business, do you use journals and planners or another tool? Feel free to leave your comments below. Thanks for reading.
