This year my hubby and I resolved to make a few changes, one of which was to travel a bit more. So shortly after the holidays we decided to do something on the spur of the moment and head south to a warmer climate. It took us 22 hours to drive from Ontario to St. Augustine in Florida. The temps went from -12C to 14C in that time frame. Leading a laptop lifestyle allowed us to do this, without too much planning or thinking. This was really a let’s head out in the next few days type of decision.
It’s amazing how the warmer weather makes you feel, so much more alive and awake. Plus who doesn’t love the view of the ocean, sandy beaches and palm trees.
Our drive down wasn’t too bad. The times we have crossed the border into the U.S. we always seem to get a border guard that is not very happy and was more sarcastic than anything. The drive by Lake Erie was extremely windy with snow being blown around. Once we got into West Virginia we saw more mountains which was really nice. The mountain drive was nice, but forgot how much the elevation affected your ears and head.
My favorite skyline was Charlotte, North Carolina, it really was beautiful with all the different buildings. Plus by this point the weather started to get warmer, but there was still a frosty feel to the air. Mind you there was a cold front that had gone through as well, that reached pretty far south. The worst city to drive through was Jacksonville, Florida. Super busy with lots of construction but we didn’t get lost!
Today we drove down to Daytona Beach area and walked on the beach and put our hands in the ocean water. It was still nice and warm with sun and cloud. After dinner we went for a nice walk on the beach. The biggest downside is that you can’t take your dog for a walk on the beach, and have to find specific doggy beaches for that.
All of this wouldn’t have been possible if I didn’t have my own business with the luxury of working from any location at any time, hence the laptop lifestyle. All I need is a laptop and internet connection and I am good to go. It was nice to know that while we were driving, or out walking I have still been making money. I have to admit that I wish I had more time to set up a few things, but as this was a last minute decision I am just working around things.
One of the nicest perks of this, is that the Wi-Fi services so far have been so much faster than our slow internet connection at home. Making this laptop lifestyle even more appealing!
Of course, not having any kids at home any more also helps, so we only have to pack up Skyla, our black Lab, and we are ready to go. But this was one of the things we were looking forward too, after raising our boys.
So far the biggest inconvenience has been logging in from hubby’s laptop, and from a different location. I had to verify my Facebook account and Gmail. Plus making sure I had all my log in’s and passwords with me. I do miss my Lastpass, but so far haven’t gotten locked out of anything either. I put lots of content on Google Drive and Dropbox and copied all my important login URL’s as well.
It helped big time having put up my Journal PLR pack on Warrior Plus, as that as been doing really well and bringing in some extra cash. I really wish it was possible to withdraw US dollars from my PayPal account though!
We are hoping to stay here for about 10 days before returning back home. It’s always nice to dream big, and my one dream would be to be able to do something like this every winter to escape the cold of Ontario. Nothing wrong with big plans and dreams. Plus if gives you a wonderful incentive to ramp up your business earnings too.
