Today I thought I would give you some insight on my latest PLR launch. This was on the popular topic of Adult Coloring Books, and to say the least I learnt a lot from this launch. As an online marketer I am always looking out for new topics and trends to produce products about. I saw that the Adult Coloring Book niche was really hot and figured that this would be the perfect topic for my next PLR pack. Plus no-one else had come out with a big pack on this topic and it’s always best to try and be the first to market! While this sounds great, it is not as easy as it sounds.
My first step was to test out this market with my own list and see how well it went over. I contacted a good friend, who has just started doing design work in this niche and she offered to do some designs for me. That was fine and my ecover designer was nice enough to color in the design and create a new ecover for me. This is the result: Calming Effects PLR It sold really well so I was confident enough that a larger pack would go over well.
So now it was time to get the pack created. My biggest issue was ensuring that customers knew they could not publish this content on Amazon. It is against their Terms of Service to attempt to publish any book created with PLR content. I made sure I stated this clearly on the PLR license and in the FAQ section. Instead I decided to come up with a mix and match pack of designs. This would allow customer’s to create their own books and products and use them on their own sites. They could easily create Adult Coloring Books to sell from their own website, or offer these new books as a bonus to an already published book.
Other ideas for using these designs include:
- Creating notes and putting them in lunchboxes
- Using them for Christmas, Birthday and Anniversary cards
- Creating family coloring books that could include quotes and even family pictures
- Coloring in the designs and then having them printed on items such as mousepads, mugs and even t-shirts
Graphical Issues of Adult Coloring Books
To understand the next issue you have to be aware that graphics are not my thing. I have tried many times to design things, and while I kind of enjoy it, the results aren’t stunning to say the least. Now I had managed to find a couple of people to help design the Mandalas that was fine. The issue I was having was in coloring them in so that the result was a high quality image that could be used for an ecover. My first attempt at coloring, I was using Paint to do this, took me several hours – at least the best part of an afternoon. Color wise things were fine but when I sent it to my graphics person, she said that the quality was just not there. This process went on for about 2-3 weeks. Until she finally asked me what it was I was trying to accomplish.
After explaining the product to her we chatted for awhile and then I asked her if she would be willing to do a joint venture with me. We had actually done one before with a Wedding PLR pack that sold quite well. The main issue was that I had a batch of designs all ready to go, so what would I do with those? Obviously if you are going to associate your name with a product then you want it to be yours. So in the end I decided I would use the original designs on a different product and that she would create all the designs for the new package.
So that began a joint venture which finally resulted in this product actually coming together. Shawn ended up doing the design work and then I put the ebooks together and did the sales and download pages. Plus I was in charge of getting the word out to affiliates.
On the first day of launch we did manage to appear on the Top Seller of the Day list at #9 so that got us some more exposure and a few more affiliate requests. The entire sales funnel consisted of 3 products and it converted well at just over 16% on average. I liked the idea of the 3 product funnel and may just add it to my next product as well.
The main idea that I am trying to get across here is if you are stumbling with something that is just not going right get some help. For me if I hadn’t hooked up with Shawn for this launch I would be stuck with trying to color the images and maintain a high quality. It was much better to partner up with someone and share in the proceeds than never launch at all.
