There are different ways that you can make money with your writing. Let’s take a look at some of them here.
Books – creating books can help you develop a passive income online. The type of book you create is up to you, but you could choose from writing a fiction book, nonfiction or you may like to write short stories.
Some of the most popular places to publish books include Amazon Kindle, CreateSpace, Barnes & Noble and the iBookstore.
If you are looking for a comprehensive course on publishing to Kindle then I highly recommend Geoff’s course here: Kindling The reason why I like Geoff’s course is that it is well laid out and extremely informative. Plus Geoff’s spends a lot of time and effort to keep all the content current. So as changes happen to Kindle they are quickly reflected on his site. I have asked Geoff plenty of questions and he has always responded quickly. I use this resource myself which is why I feel confident in recommending it to you.
PLR – this stands for private label rights where basically you create content that buyers can use in a certain way. Each pack of content comes with a license which states the usage terms. For example with my PLR I allow people to edit it and reuse it basically in any way they see fit. They are not allowed to associate my name with the content or resell it as another PLR package.
Not sure how to set up a PLR Store then check out my favourite resource here: PLR ATM This is Tiffany’s guide and the exact one that I used to set up my store. Basically I just followed along with her instructions step by step and was able to get my store up and running quickly. Today I have made a few tweaks and changes to the store, I do use a different shopping cart as I wanted the ability to offer more coupons to my customers. I am still working on this cart, but am planning on writing a more detailed account of the one I use in the near future.
This is another great resource for how to make money from PLR: PLR Mastery This product is aimed at those who purchase PLR as well as those who write it. There are some neat suggestions of how you could write and offer content aimed at PLR sellers. An informative read with a ton of great suggestions which can also be applied to any product you create.
Information Products – this can include an entire range of products including short reports, books, courses and more. Basically any product that can be delivered digitally is suitable for this. There are other options for actually mailing out printed products on demand. I would suggest keeping things simple at first though.
One of the biggest issues with information products is finding what niche to create products in. This course can help you achieve this: Niche Research It is vital to know how to research a niche correctly as the information you find will help you not only create useful products, it will help you write your sales pages more effectively. This is a new product which I am working through. So far I am impressed at what is included, it is easy to follow and contains a report plus videos you can follow.
Then when you are ready to start creating your products this is a extremely useful course: Product Creation In this course you are shown how to actually put your product together, including putting together a sales funnel and selling your product. While I do not own this course, I do personally know the creator of it and know he offers tons of support and great advice to all of his customers.
Ghostwriting – this is a great way to get started earning money and getting your name known. I use ghostwriting as an immediate income method and it certainly does help pay those monthly bills. Starting out by offering a service is one of the best ways to make money online today.
The biggest issue with ghostwriting is that you can only write so much content per day. So at some point you may find that your income is capped. You have two choices when this happens. Either increase your prices or look for an alternate income source. This could mean hiring other writers and forming a ghostwriting business, or opening up your own PLR Store.
Many writers are combining these two methods. I do this myself and so does Tiffany Lambert. You can rely on your income from your ghostwriting while building your store. In time this revenue will increase and will become a passive income stream.
Check out Tiffany’s Ghostwriting for Cash product for information on how to get started with this method. Ghostwriting for Cash Again this is a product that I do have and I applied certain aspects of it to my service based business. For anyone just starting out and who isn’t a member of any forums which offer services, this is a great way to set up your business and to find your first clients.
Affiliate Marketing – an affiliate marketer is someone who reviews products and then promotes them on their blog. You get paid a commission each time a person clicks on your affiliate link and purchases the product.
One thing to remember with this method is that you are putting your reputation at stake. So you want to do your due diligence and make sure that you are promoting good products.
Don’t get into the habit of promoting the latest and greatest products. Instead find an area that you enjoy writing about and target that market. You may like to write about walking or cooking. You could set up a blog and then start promoting quality affiliate products on this subject.
Magazines – there is a huge market out there for getting your articles and stories published in magazines, both online and printed ones.
Here’s a $5 resource for learning how to get printed material online: CreateSpace Cash If you want to learn how to produce printed books then this quick guide is perfect. It is really informative and I found it very useful when creating my first cookbook for CreateSpace.
Newsletters – running a newsletter is another way you can make money with your writing talent online. You can do this through a website or you could simply send out your newsletter by using an autoresponder service such as Aweber.
Choose a topic that you enjoy writing about and create a 2 page newsletter to go out each month. While you don’t have to create all the content yourself, you could invite others to share their knowledge by accepting guest posts.
Use this Passive Income System to learn how to easily set up and create your own monthly newsletter. Adam has just improved this course and these new files will be added to the site shortly. With this system you can now set up your first newsletter using Word, Open Office or Apple iPages very quickly and simply. You don’t need a website with his new method. I really love this system and am working on a newsletter on my own.
The above options outline the very basics of how to make money with your writing. There is more detail to each one, but for now, your goal is to determine which one you would like to get started with.
If your income needs are urgent then setting yourself up as a ghostwriter is the most logical step. You can then select one of the other methods to help supplement your income. Whatever you do, don’t go overboard and take on too much at once. All you will succeed in doing is just burn yourself out and you will feel as though you are getting nowhere.
